<p>Use WebSweep when you:</p>

<li>want a repeatable workflow for many domains</li>
<li>mainly need HTML text and metadata from public pages</li>
</ul>
<p>In this tutorial, we use the example of FIRMBACKBONE. It is the Dutch research infrastructure to provides secure, FAIR access to comprehensive data on all registered organizations in the Netherlands, including web-based data. We would like to collect information of corporate websites, for example to track the scope and depth of coverage of the energy transition. The same workflow can be used for universities, NGOs, government organisations, local news sites, project websites, or any other public set of domains.</p></description>

<p>Large language models (LLMs) have become an essential tool for social scientists and humanities (SSH) researchers who work with textual data. One particularly valuable use case is automating text annotation, traditionally a time-consuming step in preparing data for empirical analysis. Yet, many SSH researchers face two challenges: getting started with LLMs, and understanding how to evaluate and correct for their limitations. The rapid pace of model development can make LLMs appear inaccessible or intimidating, while even experienced users may overlook how annotation errors can bias results from downstream analyses (e.g., regression estimates, p-values), even when accuracy appears high.</p></description>

While questions with this structure are seemingly simple, their causal effects are notoriously hard to estimate, because often the researchers cannot perform a randomized controlled experiment.</p></description>

<p>Open data is one of the pillars of open science. However, there are often barriers in the way of making research data openly available, relating to consent, privacy, or organisational boundaries. In such cases, synthetic data is an excellent solution: the real data is kept secret, but a &ldquo;fake&rdquo; version of the data is available. The promise of the synthetic dataset is that others can then investigate the data structure, rerun scripts, use the data in educational materials, or even run a completely different analysis on their own.</p></description>

<p>To apply, you have to submit a short proposal for your project, together with a substantive supervisor. We are looking for projects in the social sciences for which a computational or data-related problem needs to be solved.</p></description>
