MWEBscan uses an open-core model.
All source code in this repository is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (see LICENSE).
What that means in practice:
- You may use, study, modify and self-host it freely.
- If you run a modified version as a network service, you must make your modified source available to its users (AGPL Section 13). This is the key difference from MIT/GPL and is what prevents a competitor from running a closed-source SaaS fork.
- A network deployment satisfies Section 13 by offering the Corresponding Source of the exact version it runs. The footer link must therefore point to the source of the deployed build: this repository if you run it unmodified, or your own published, commit-pinned fork if you have changed anything.

MWEBscan-generated data, including API responses, exported datasets (CSV/JSON), computed peg-in/peg-out links, confidence and privacy/AML scores, entity flows, charts data, privacy recommendations, and our own derived labels, is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), unless otherwise noted. Public use requires attribution (see ATTRIBUTION.md).
Third-party labels, sanctions lists, public datasets, and imported tag packs (for example OFAC SDN, GraphSense TagPacks, community labels) remain subject to their original licenses, source terms, and notices. MWEBscan preserves source metadata where available. Do not assume the CC BY 4.0 grant extends to imported third-party data; check each dataset's license before redistributing.
Use of the hosted API at mwebscan.com is governed by the site Terms of Service, not the code license.
Whether you reuse the code (AGPL-3.0 Section 7(b)) or use MWEBscan data, labels, scores, links, heuristics or API output, public products must keep reasonable, visible credit to MWEBscan / Tech1k where those results are shown, and must not imply endorsement without written permission. See ATTRIBUTION.md for the full notice and acceptable wording.
The AGPL is deliberately strong. If you want to embed MWEBscan in a closed-source or commercial product without the AGPL's source-disclosure obligations, a separate commercial license is available; contact the copyright holder. (The single-owner copyright above is what makes dual-licensing possible; outside contributions are accepted under the contributor grant in CONTRIBUTING.md, which preserves the right to relicense.)
